Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to correct and detect code errors independently, by dividing the original information sequence code into two or more and by generating and adding a check code to each divided group independently.
CONSTITUTION: ROMs are utilized in check code generating parts 12 and 22 and detecting circuits 14a and 24a. Since check code generating parts 12 and 22 must generate four-bit check codes from eight-bit information sequence codes, they require 26×4-bit ROMs. Detecting circuits 14a and 24a require 212×6-bit ROMs because total six bits including one bit to indicate presence or absence of the code error, one bit to indicate presence or absence of the single error or the double error, and four bits to indicate the bit position to be corrected for the single error are required as code error information from 12-bit error correction and detection codes. The number of words of ROMs are 256 words and 4K words respectively. This system is considerably economical in comparison with the case where the original information sequence code is not divided for error correction.
