Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a high C steel wire rod having superior drawability after partenting by adding a specified amount of B to high C steel.
CONSTITUTION: This high C steel wire rod contains 0.40W0.95% C, 0.01W0.30% Si, 0.30W0.90% Mn and 0.001W0.010% B. It is drawn, and patenting is carried out at the beginning or middle of the drawing process. Such a trace of B contained fixes N in the steel as BN, resulting in the grain refining of nonmetallic inclusions, high cleanliness and improved suitability to strain aging. The B content is preferably equal to the N content of the steel or less and ≥0.003%. This wire rod has superior drawability even under severe drawing conditions of fine drawing, high-speed drawing or drawing at a high reduction ratio.
