Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the production of any protrusion in welding materials and let good welding be effected by selecting the output signal of a fixed level or more of a detector of electron beam permeating through the materials to be welded and controlling the electron beam according to the signal amount thereof.
CONSTITUTION: A stage 5 is moved at a constant speed in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the paper and an electron beam EB is generated from an electron gun 2 to irradiate steel plates A and B. When the welding depth becomes deeper than the set value, the beam EB enters an electron beam detector 6 and the input signal of a comparator 8 which has amplified the output of the detector 6 becomes the one containing many of the components based on the incidence to the detector 6. Supplied with the signal containing the pulse signals of a fixed level or more, the comparator 8 supplies the pulse signals to response circuit 10 by way of an integrator 8. When the signals exceed the response level of the circuit 10, a response signal is output therefrom and is supplied to a heating electric source 4, then by way of the electric power source 4, the generation of the beam EB from the electron beam generator 1 is stopped and at the same time, an alarm circuit 11 is triggered.
