PURPOSE:To reduce a light loss and to simplify unit constitution by detecting the reception state of a terminal station from the output state of a light receiver that corresponds to the terminal station. CONSTITUTION:In the terminal-station separating device (encircled by the dotted line) of the terminal station, reception detecting circuit 23, timer 24 and OR gate 25 are connected by interposing. A photosignal passed through photoswitch 7 enters light receiver 12 via optical fiber 9 and when reception detecting circuit 23 detects a reception state, its detection output A' is compared to a signal from optical transmission monitor 21 by fault detecting circuit 22 to decide the occurrence of a fault, but even if receiver 12 is assumed to be in trouble in this case, the fault occurrence can not be detected.
