Abstract
PURPOSE: To effectively recover combustible gas and at the same time to recover metals, by contacting with steam, noncombustible solids such as carbon black, produced in a pyrolytic furnace.
CONSTITUTION: Waste rubber 7 reinforced with metals and carbon black is introduced through charging doors 6 into a pyrolytic furnace, and allowed to fall through a predrying zone 1 into a pyrolytic zone 2, where the waste rubber is thermally decomposed at 300W1,000°C to produce dry distillation gas and noncombustible solids consisting of carbon black and metals. Then, the noncombustible solids are allowed to fall into a zone 3 for forming water gas and reducing gas, where the carbon black is contracted with steam or water injected from an injection nozzle 9 to generate water gas. On the other hand, the unreacted residual carbon falls into a combustion zone 4, where the carbon reacts with heated air prepared by heating to 1,600°C or higher, air introduced from a nozzle 10 by a burner 11, to generate reducing gas and at the same time to melt the metals in the solids, which then accumulate at the furnace bottom 5. The dry distillation gas is recovered from a recovery conduit 8.
