Abstract
PURPOSE: To recover adiponitrile (ADN) effectively, by decomposing 1,3,6-tricyanohexane (TCH) which is a by-product in the preparation of ADN and has no effective method of utilization under heating.
CONSTITUTION: 1,3,6-Tricyanohexane (TCH) is decomposed into acrylonitrile (AN) and adiponitrile (ADN) by heating TCH at least a temperature of 300°C in the liquid or vapor phase to recover ADN. The reaction is preferably carried out in the vapor phase in the presence of a catalyst and has a great temperature dependence. In the vapor phase reaction, the conversion of TCH increases monotonously with increasing temperature; however, the selectivity for ADN is maximum in a certain temperature range which depends upon the feed rates of the catalyst and TCH. A noble metal, an oxide, a solid base catalysts, etc. may be cited as the catalyst.
EFFECT: AN is recoverable simultaneously and usable as a synthetic raw material for ADN.
