Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce vinylidene fluoride which is a raw material for the production of fluorinated rubber, etc., at relatively low temperature, by carrying out the dehydrofluorination of 1, 1, 1-trifluoroethane in the presence of a Cr compound.
CONSTITUTION: In vinylidene fluoride is produced by the dehydrofluorination of 1, 1, 1-trifluoroethane in the presence of an inorganic chromium(III) compound, at relatively low temperature, i.e. about 350W500°C. Cr(III) oxide, hydroxide, etc. may be cited as the inorganic chromium(III) compound, and the catalytic activity is preferably stabilized by HF treatment. The reaction time is 1W60 sec.
EFFECT: Since inorganic chromium(III) compound undergoes no change during the reaction, it can be reused, and moreover easily separated from the formed vinylidene fluoride.
