Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a compact structure and to prevent the reduction of smoke removing efficiency during operation by a method wherein a corona discharge electrode is installed so that its discharge projection end directs toward the inlet side of gas stream in a cylindrical smoke passage having internal electrode plates.
CONSTITUTION: When a high voltage is applied across discharge electrode 7 and facing electrode 1, corona discharge from the projected end 12 of the discharge electrode 7 produces corona ions, which rush along arrow mark 8 onto the facing electrode 1 in shower form. The projected end 12 which is installed toward the inlet side of passage 2 produces near its end a negative pressure area. Gas stream flowing into the negative pressure area goes along the side surface of the discharge electrode 7 where no corona charge exists, flowing from the outlet side of the passage 2, and causes one-side directional flow toward the projected end 12 as shown by the arrow 17. Contaminated air is introduced from the open end 10 of the inlet side to the passage 2 and is pushed by corona wind toward the facing electrode 1 as shown by the arrow 9, and moves in the passage toward the outlet side.
