Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance the impregnation of an electrolyte into a separator for battery without causing any deterioration to its durability by immersing a porous body made of a polyolefine or the like directly in a sulfonation solution and then in a diluted sulfonation solution. CONSTITUTION:A porous body, such as nonwoven cloth, woven cloth, felt or sheet, made of either a polyolefine or a copolymer of olefines, is directly immersed in a sulfonation solution. After that, the body is immersed in a diluted sulfonation solution and washed with water. It is desirable to employ either fuming sulfuric acid or chromium sulfate as the former sulfonation solution while its diluted aqueous solution is preferred as the diluted sulfonation solution.
