Abstract

PURPOSE:To constitute the shock absorber so that the damping property thereof can be changed automatically corresponding to the loadage of a vehicle by enabling free setting of the damping property on the side of shrinkage at the time when a vehicle is loaded or unloaded, respectively. CONSTITUTION:The shock absorber is constituted by arranging two damping valves 11 and 12 with different property in series at the bottom part of a lower chamber 8 and by providing a by-pass 14 communicating with an intermediate place between the valves so that it is opened or closed at the circumferetial wall of a sleeve 15 according to the loadage of the vehicle. By such a constitution, the shock absorber can be provided with the damping property on the shrinkage side meeting the respective requirements at the time when the vehicle is loaded or unloaded. And, since the range of variableness of the damping force on the shrinkage side on the occasion that the vehicle is loaded or unloaded can be set extensively and optionally at the time when a piston 5 operates at a low speed or at any other similar times, in particular, the secured operability of the vehicle when loaded and the comfortableness to drive the vehicle when unloaded can be improved.
