Abstract
PURPOSE:To change the attenuation characteristics of the shock absorber automatically in response to the loadage of a car by a method wherein each attenuation characteritics at the shrinkage side in case of an empty car and a loading car can freely be set. CONSTITUTION:The shock absorber is formed in such a manner that the first port 10 for exclusive use in case of an empty car, which flows oil in a lower chamber 7 toward an upper chamber 6 through an attenuation valve 8 at the first shrinkage side, and the second port 11 for exclusive use in case of a loading car, which flows the oil in the lower chamber 7 toward the upper chamber 6 through an attenuation valve 9 at the second shrinkage side, are mounted in parallel in separate shapes, and a sleeve 12 is installed which selectively opens and closes the first port 10 and the second port 11 in response to a relative positional change of a piston 4. Thus, attenuation characteristics each corresponding to requirements in case of the empty car and the loading car can independently be given arbitrarily. The characteristics at the low speed of the piston can be improved particularly because the coefficient of variation of attenuation force at the shrinkage side in case of the empty car and the loading car can arbitrarily be taken at a large value.
