Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain homogeneous molten glass by placing a neck provided with stirrers between the refining and adjusting zones of a glass kiln and asymmetrically arranging water-cooled members at both sides of the adjusting zone to sufficiently cool central molten glass. CONSTITUTION:Glass starting material charged into glass kiln 1 from charge inlet 2 is melted in melting zone 3, refined in refining zone 4, and fed into adjusting zone 5 after being drawn in the taking-out direction and increased in the folw rate with a plurality of stirrers 7 set in neck 6 and alternately rotating in the opposite directions of the lateral direction of kiln 1. The molten glass is allowed to flow into opening 9 of water-cooled members 8, 8' arranged asymmetrically about the center line of kiln 1 to change the flow direction of the molten glass, whereby the glass is drawn in the taking-out direction and the lateral diection of kiln 1, and then the resulting uniform glass is taken out of outlet 13.
