Abstract
PURPOSE: To increase the rate of hydrogenating the resulting hydrogen storing material, the rate of decomposing it and the amount of hydrogen occluded in the material and to make the equilibrium pressure of the material proper by substituting a metal selected from a group consisting of V, Cr, Mn, Fe and Co for part of Ni of an Mg2Ni alloy.
CONSTITUTION: This hydrogen storing material is an alloy represented by general formula Mg2Ni1-xMx (where M is a metal selected from a group consisting of V, Cr, Mn, Fe and Co and 0.01≤x≤0.5). It forms hydride showing about 1W10 atm hydrogen equilibrium pressure in an industrially advantageous utilization range, i.e. at about 250Wabout 450°C. This material and its hydride have very stable structure, and the ignitability of the hydride due to oxidation is very low even if the hydride is exposed to the air, so they are handled easily and safely.
