Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the workability of an Ni-W alloy by casting the alloy in a metal pipe, sealing both ends of the resulting ingot in the pipe with the same metal as the pipe, and hot pressing the ingot to destroy the cast structure of the alloy.
CONSTITUTION: An Ni-W alloy contg. 5W35wt% W is refined. One or more kinds of reducing agents such as Al, C, Mg, Siand Zr may be added to the alloy. This molten alloy 1 is introduced into metal pipe 2 of Ni or the like with one end sealed, and after casting alloy 1 the other end is sealed with cover 3 of the same metal as pipe 2 by welding 4 or other method. The resulting ingot is subjected to annealing or other treatment and deformed at ≥ about 30% sectional reduction ratio by press working at 900W1,350°C in the longitudinal direction. The Ni part of pipe 2 is then removed by cutting. By the hot pressing of the cast structure of thr Ni-W alloy is destroyed to provide high workability.
