Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate for a perfume or medicine readily, by rearranging an easily manufacturable allyl type ether under heating to suppress the retro-ene type decomposition and increase the reaction yield of the Cope rearrangement.
CONSTITUTION: An allyl type ether of formula II (R1WR8 are H's or hydrocarbons, however, any two of them may form a ring with the carbon atom if the desired rearrangement is not affected) is rearranged under heating in an inert gas atmosphere, e.g. N2 or He, and at 150W250°C in the liquid phase or at 300W400°C in the vapor phase to give the titled compound of formula I. The allyl type group in the compound of formula II shows the protecting action on the proton of the hydroxyl group and suppresses the retro-ene type decomposition reaction to become the allyl substituent at the α-position of the compound of formula I. The Cope and Claisen rearrangements are believed to occur continuously in the same reaction system.
