NEW MATERIAL:The titled compound of formula I (R1 is H, alkyl or alkenyl group; R2, R3, R4 and R5 are H's or lower alkyl groups).
EXAMPLE: α-Allyl-5,10-undecadien-1-al.
USE: A perfume or a synthetic intermediate therefor or for prostaglandins having an allyl type group at the α-position and a C-C double bond at the δε-position, convertible into jasmone or cyclopentenone having a prostaglandin skeleton by cyclization with an acidic catalyst.
PROCESS: An allyl type ether of formula II is rearranged in the atmosphere of N2, He, etc. under heating at 150W250°C, preferably 170W220°C, in the liquid phase or at 300W400°C in the vapor phase, to give the compound of formula I.
