CONSTITUTION: A phenol expressed by formula I (R1 is H or lower alkyl; R2 is COOH, COOCH2CH=CH2 or CN) is reacted with a phenyl halide expressed by the formula Ar-X (Ar is formula II and III or IV; R and R0 are H, halogen, NO2, CN, lower alkyl or CF3) in the presence of a base, preferably an alkali (earth) metal or a hydroxide or carbonate thereof, in a polar solvent, e.g. an alcohol or an aprotic polar solvent such as dimethylformamide, at 80W170°C, preferably 90W120°C, for 5W10hr to give a phenoxylalkene derivative of formula V.
