Abstract

PURPOSE: To simplify a measuring device and enhance its reliability, by using a lens to form an image of rays of light from a diffusion plate illuminated by a light source and by using a solid scanning element to read an equal magnification imge formed by a lens for a measured object located on an image formation surface for the former image and by effecting prescribed calculation and processing to determine the outside diameter of the object.
CONSTITUTION: Light is irradiated from a light source 21 upon a diffusion plate 25 through a reflector 22, a lens 23 and a filter 24. Diffused light from the plate 25 is formed into an image in a position (s) by a lens 26. The equal magnification image of a measured object 11 located in the position (s) is formed on a solid scanning element 28 such as CCD by a lens 27. The solid scanning element 28 is scanned by a driver 29. The output signal of the element is processed by a signal processor to determine the outside diameter of the object 11. The nonuniformity of the brilliance of the image formation surface (s) is compensated through a filter or a calculation circuit. In that case, an optical output is changed into a binary code by an intermediate level (Vmax- Vmin)/2, and number N of O-level bits is counted and the pitch length l of a photoelement is multiplied by N to determine the outside diameter. Thereby, said procedure results in simplifying a measuring device and enhancing its reliability.
