Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to output a video signal as many as the number of scanning lines of a random television standard system, by changing the screen size of a solid image pickup unit using CCD (charge coupled device) as an image sensor. CONSTITUTION:As an image sensor, inter-line transfer type CCD1 having an enough number of picture elements to obtain information for the PAL-system screen size is used. In image pickup operation on the PAL system, the sensor gate of CCD1 is opened by sensor gate clock signal phisp from sensor gate clock signal generator 2, thereby performing the image pickup operation. In image pickup operation on the NTSC system, stored charge for 87 lines among that for 525 lines obtained from CCD1 of the PAL-system screen size is read and removed in the vertical blanking interval of the NTSC system and the number of lines is converted, thereby performing the image pickup operation.
