Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the internal resistance of a battery and increase its capacity by using powder of a transition metal such as nickel, cobalt, or iorn as a conducting material for silver (II) oxide positive electrode. CONSTITUTION:A positive compound 2 to be charged and pressed in a metal case 1 is, for example, a mixture of 75 parts of silver (II) oxide active material and 25 parts of nickel powder as a conducting material. Other transition metal such as cobalt or iron may be used as a conducting material. Because the powder of transition metal such as nickel powder becomes passive in an alkaline electrolyte under the voltage of silver (II) oxide, silver (II) oxide will not be reduced to silver (I) oxide and nor is the conductivity of the transition metal powder such as nickel powder reduced, therefore the internal resistance will not increase during storage and a battery free from capacity reduction is obtained.
