Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the discharge capacity and to reduce the internal resistance of a battery by using an anode compound which comprises silver(II) oxide and a conductive material of transition metal powder with many projections on its surfaces. CONSTITUTION:An anode compound 2 which comprises 95 parts silver(II) oxide and 5 parts metallic powder such as cobalt, nickel, or iron, many projections on its surfaces and 0.5m<2>/g or more surface area, is filled and pressed in a metallic container 1, a separator 3 is inserted to the upper surface, and a gel-like cathode electrode 5 prepd. from a mixture of zinc powder and an alkaline electrolyte comprising pottasium hydroxide and powder of a gelatinizing agent such as sodium polyacrylate are combined to form a battery. Because of the large surface area of the transition metal powder in the anode compound 2, the internal resistance of the anode compound can be reduced with the smallest amount of the metallic powder; silver(II) oxide will not be reduced, and the reduction of the battery capacity can be reduced greatly.
