Abstract

PURPOSE: To purify human albumin and/or γ-globulin, by adding a zinc salt to an aqueous solution containing the human plasma proteins.
CONSTITUTION: The blood-type specific substance and pyrogenic substance are removed from human plasma proteins, by adding a zinc salt (e.g. zinc acetate, zinc sulfate, zinc chloride, etc.) to an aqueous solution containing human albumin and/or γ-globulin (e.g. derived from human blood, plasma, or placenta) to a final concentration of 0.5W50mM. The plasma proteins are precipitated by this treatment, and the type-specific substance and the pyrogenic substance existing in the plasma as impurities are left in the supernatant liquid. The blood-type-specific substance such as the A type, B type, H type, Le type, etc. which is a glucoprotein difficult to separate by conventional process, and the pyrogenic substance which is a lipo-polyglucoprotein constituting the cell wall of bacteria, can be separated by this process. The plasma protein such as albumin, γ-albumin, etc. recovered as precipitate, is further purified.
