Abstract
PURPOSE:To keep a consequential damage or accident due to leakage to a minimum by providing a heat insulating layer over the inner wall of an outer shell and an air space between the heat insulating layer and the outer wall of an inner shell in conjunction with a dual shell low temperature liquid storage tank. CONSTITUTION:An air space A is provided between an inner wall 14b and a roof 14c of an outer shell 14 and an outer wall 13b and a roof 13c of an inner shell 13. A heat insulating layer 17 is of such construction that it well shuts off transfer of heat, is sturdy enough to resist heat impacts, has sufficient structural rigidity, and is watertight to prevent seepage of low temperature liquid. The air space A is filled with nitrogen gas or the like serving as an extra storage space should the inner shell 13 be cracked to allow easy, quick draining or transfer of leaked liquid into another tank.
