Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the hihg-rate discharging characteistics and the storage characteristics of a battery by using as an active material for its positive electrode gamma type mangnese dioxide, which has been rendered into a water-free or substantially water-free state by exposing gamma type manganese dioxide to microwaves. CONSTITUTION:A light metal such as lithium is used as an active material for a negative electrode, while manganese dioxide is used as an active material for a positive electrode in a battery which uses a non-aqueous electrolyte. As the manganese dioxide is used gamma type manganese dioxide, which has been rendered into a water-free or substantially water-free state by exposing gamma type manganese dioxide to microwaves.
