Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a structural steel having vibration damping property capable of effectively reducing noise and vibration by adding a specific amount of Cr and Al in combination to low carbon steel.
CONSTITUTION: A steel contains C; 0.003W0.030%, Si; 0.10W0.45%, Mn; 1.05W 2.50%, Cr; 2.0W15.0%, Al; 1W7% or further one or both of Ti; 0.01W 0.09% and Cu; 0.05W1.50%. Combined addition of a specific amount of Cr and Al is effective in converting energy applied to steel such as vibration or sound wave to magnetic energy, so that the energy is consumed and vibration damping effect is developed. In said process, the conversion ratio of the vibrational strain energy to magnetic energy is not decreased and its strength is effectively enhanced. Thereby said process enables to provide a structural steel having an excellent vibrational damping property as described above along with a tensile strength exceeding 41kg/ mm2.
