Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide the high-strength, low-noise gears suited to a power transmission mechanism of various machines by a method wherein a steel material consisting of specific amount of C, Si, Mn, Cr, Al, Ti, and the remaining Fe is machined into forms of the gears and treated with soft nitriding. CONSTITUTION:A steel material consisting of C:0.1-0.35%, Si<1.5%, Mn<2%, Cr: 0.5-2.5%, Al: 0.05-0.5%, Ti: 0.4-1.5% and the remaining Fe is machined into a gear form and is treated with soft nitriding. The gear has a good tooth- profile-error exceeding JIS class 3, gives low noise gear system, provides high strength to withstand surface pressure of 150kg/cm<2> or more of Herz stress. As such, it can be used as the power transmission mechanism for an automobile, industrial machinery, agricultural machine, etc.
