Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a structural steel excellent in tensile strength and vibration damping property by adding a specific amount of Al to low carbon steel and totally controlling the contents of C, Si, Mn, and Al.
CONSTITUTION: A steel material contains C; 0.003W0.030%, Si; 0.10W0.45%, Mn; 1.05W2.50%, Al; 1.5W9.0%, and further one or both of Ti; 0.01W0.09% and Cu; 0.05W1.50%. In the steel, the high Al content provides good vibration damping property, the Ti and Cu contents in the above range cause TiC precipitation hardening of TiC to improve the strength, especially yield strength, and the added Cu causes precipitated ε-Cu phase to enhance the strength and to effect further improved vibration damping property.
