Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform high temperature curing of coagulated particles of a synthetic resin latex suspended in water without formation of aggregates, by the preferential heating of the coagulated particles with ultrasonic wave irradiation.
CONSTITUTION: The coagulated particles of a synthetic resin latex prepared by the emulsion polymerization or suspension polymerization nethod are thermally cured by radiating ultrasonic wave having a frequency range of ≥<50KHz (absorption in the latex is larger than that in water). As the curing of the particles can be carried out at a lower latex temperature than the temperature required for the heat treatment in the conventional heat curing method, this method is effective to reduce the equipment cost and save the energy consumption. From the viewpoint of the efficiency for selective heating of the coagulated particles, the amount of the particles having the size of ≤35μm is pref. ≤50wt%, especially ≤30wt% on the basis of the whole amount, and such particles are prepared e.g. by spraying the emulsion polymerization latex through a pressure nozzle into an atmosphere of a coagulant.
