Abstract

PURPOSE: To hold a wooden pattern at low temp. and harden a mold or core in a short time by forcibly flowing a cooling gas in contact with the surfaces of the wooden pattern of the mold or core under microwave irradiation.
CONSTITUTION: A sand mold 4 is formed in a wooden pattern 3 by molding sand prepared by compounding an organic binder and a hardener and this is installed in a furnace casing 1, thence microwaves are irradiated thereto from a microwave shooter 2. At this time, the circulating flow of a cooling gas such as low-temp. air is forcibly flowed in contact with the wooden pattern 3 surfaces by using a blower 6. If necessary, the cooling of the sand mold 4 surface by the cooling flow is prevented by using an electric heater 7 provided to the ceiling of the casing 1. The wooden pattern 3 is kept at low temp. of nearly ≤30°C, and the mold or core is hardened satisfactorily by this method.
