Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent mold deformation by moisture absorption and make hot strength sufficient by compounding a water soluble thermosetting resin in a glue, and drying and hardening the same with heat.
CONSTITUTION: Molding sand obtd. by compounding and kneading a water soluble glue and a water soluble phenolic resin is quickly packed in a heated metal mold. The surface of the mold is dried and the glue hardened by the heat of the metal mold, and the thermosetting resin causes thermosetting reaction, thereby creating the surface hardened layer having strength. This core is put into a green sand mold matrix and in the thoroughly moisture absorbed state by allowing it to stand, molten cast iron is poured. In this way, a casting of good dimensional accuracy free from deformation and casting defects is obtained. When it is dried and hardened by the heat of the metal mold, even if the thermosetting resin is unreacted, it causes setting reaction by the heat of the molten metal at the pouring, whereby sufficient high temp. strength is obtained.
