Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve collapsibility by lowering the residual stringth after casting of a mold consisting of the coated sand obtd. by coating raw material sand with a composition consisting of a curable resin and a halogen-contg. org. compd. CONSTITUTION:A composition consisting of 0.3-10pts.wt. a curable resin and 0.001-10pts.wt. a halogen contg. org. compd. based on 100pts.wt. raw material sand is mixed with said sand and the mixture is kneaded, whereby the raw material sand grains are coated with the composition. In this case, the halogen org. compd. is decomposed by heating, and the cracked gas accelerates the carburization of the curable resin. Hence, the mold formed of this coated sand maintains the superiority of moldability and the heat resistance required in the stage of casting during casting, but after the casting, it degrades its residual strength and improves collapsibility considerably.
