Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the average particle diameter of dispersed particles of synthetic rubber latex by subjecting the synthetic rubber latex to ultrasonic wave treatment.
CONSTITUTION: Synthetic rubber latex is subjected to ultrasonic wave treatment to enlarge the diameter of dispersed particles of the latex. When ultrasonic wave is transmitted through the latex, ultrasonic energy causes a vibrating action and hence microscopically localized stirring effect is produced. The joining between particles takes place by shearing stress due to the above stirring effect. preferably, the ultrasonic wave treatment is carried out with a frequency of 20W80kHz, at a temp. of 10W80°C for 1W5hr. When the latex is brought to quasiunstable state by a method such as the addition of a solvent, the addition of an electrolyte prior to the ultrasonic wave treatment, the effect obtained is further enhanced.
