Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A fatty acid ester of β-thujaplicin of the formula (R is 3-18 C alkyl).
EXAMPLE: 2-Palmitate of β-thujaplicin.
USE: Useful as fair-skinning agents and sun screen agents. When the compound is absorbed into the human skin, it is hydrolyzed with an esterase in the body to be β-thujaplicin which shows an inhibitory activity against tyrosinase and ultraviolet light absorption activity, Can be well preserved, because it is stable to light and pH. Highly oil-soluble and excellently absorbed by the skin. Harmless to human bodies and not irritant action on the skin.
PROCESS: E.g. β-thujaphlicin is dissolved in a solvent, e.g. dioxane. Then a fatty acid chloride, e.g. butyryl or caproyl chloride, is added at room temp. in the presence of pyridine to give a compound of the formula.
