Abstract

PURPOSE:A white cosmetic having improved beautifying and sunburn preventive effect and extremely good storage stability, comprising a 2-hydroxytropone-based compound as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:A proper cosmetic base material commonly in use is blended with preferably about 0.001-0.01wt% of 2-hydroxytropone(tropolone)-based compounds (e.g., tropolone, alpha-, beta-, gamma-thujaplicin, stipitatic acid, purpurogallin, and colchiceine) shown by the formulae I-III (R1-R4 are H, OH, C3H7, or COOH) as active ingredients to give a white embelishing cosmetic. The compounds shown by the formulae I-III suppresses the activity of tyrosinase existing on the human skin, exhibits an extremely controlling action on melanin formation and has an ultraviolet- absorbing action. The abovementioned cosmetic has improved whitening and sunburn preventive effect and storage stability to light and pH. Nontoxic to the human body.
