Abstract

PURPOSE:A whitening cosmetic having improved irritating properties to the skin, etc. without damaging whitening effect and sunburn inhibiting effect, obtained by specifying a blending amount of quercetin useful as a whitening agent and a sunburn inhibitor. CONSTITUTION:Common vaious kinds of cosmetic bases are blended with 0.001- 0.01wt% quercetin as an active ingredient to give a whitening cosmetic. In the cosmetic, quercetin inhibits tyrosinase activity existing in the human skin, exhibits extremely suppressing effects on melanin, shows improved ultraviolet rays absorbing properties, has high stability to pH, light, heat, etc., improves shelf stability, oil solubility and skin absorbability. Since the blending amount of quercetin is especially made in the above-mentioned range, there is no fear of irritating properties to the skin, etc. at all, the cosmetic is harmless to the human body, and it can provide both fully satisfactory whitening effect and sunburn inhibiting effect.
