Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an alloy which has a soft and hard mixed structure and excels in resistance against wear and heat and is appropriate to the valve moving parts of an automobile engine or the like, by causing iron to contain prescribed quantities of Cr, B, C, Co and Ni.
CONSTITUTION: An alloy is composed of 10W45wt% of Cr, 0.5W4.0wt% of B, 0.2W1.5wt% of C, 5W50wt% of at least one of Co and Ni and the rest of Fe and unavoidable impurities. Even if the alloy is only cast, large amounts of chromium boride and chromium carbide of high hardness are educed in the matrix of the alloy. Therefore, the resistance of the alloy against wear and heat can be heightened without causing the alloy to contain expensive W. The alloy can be applied as a building up material and is very effective for parts which would suffer from drastic wear.
