Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain ferromagnetic powder with superior magnetic characteristics by applying heat reduction after sticking the surface of needle grains whose main component is iron oxyhydroxide or iron oxide with at least two components consisting of aluminum compounds and silicon compounds.
CONSTITUTION: Aluminum compounds such as aluminum hydroxide which is obtained by neutralizing aluminum sulfate are stuck on the surface of needle grains whose main component is iron oxyhydroxide such as α-FeOOH or iron oxide such as α-Fe2O3; after drying said grains, silicon compounds are stuck again on the surface of treated grains by immersing them into the solution containing silicon compounds such as silicone oil. Raw grains whose surface are stucked with aluminum compounds and silicon compounds are reduced while heating by the fixed procedure to obtain superior ferromagnetic powder consisting of sharp needle grains with high coercive force and even grain size whose main component is metallic iron.
