Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain magnetic alloy powder which is high in saturation magnetization and has high coercive force by depositing compound of Cr, Al, Sm, etc. on the surfaces of iron oxide powder and heat treating the same at the specific temperature after reduction.
CONSTITUTION: Needle iron oxide, for example, α-Fe2O3, γ-Fe2O3 magnetite Fe3O4 or iron oxide of the oxidation state of the intermediate of γ-Fe2O3 and Fe3O4, or water-containing iron oxide of needle form, that is, geothite, is used as nuclear crystal and the compound of at least one of Cr, Al, Sm, Y, La is deposited thereon. This is heated at 400W600°C in a reducing atmosphere, whereby it is reduced. After the reducing, it is heated to 400W550°C in an inert atmosphere, whereby it is annealed.
