Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide characteristics suitable for high-density recording by employing double-layer structure that has a lower layer of needle-shaped ferromagnetic metal powder on its base and an upper layer of chained ferromagnetic metal powder.
CONSTITUTION: On a nonmagnetic supporter, a magnetic coating containing needle- shaped ferromagnetic metal powder (of about 200W1,000Å in shorter axis size and about 5W20 in axis ratio) obtained by the dry reduction method is applied. After drying, a magnetic coating containing chained ferromagnetic metal powder (of 150W800Å in grain size and 500W10,000Å in length) obtained by the wet reduction method is applied and dried by heating. Since the magnetic recording medium of double-layer structure obtained in those methods consists of chained particles as its upper layer, it has less noises and excellent S/N and excellent high-density magnetic recording medium characteristics such as less head abrasion can be obtained.
