Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a method for producing a ferromagnetic iron oxide powder, comprising causing β-FeOOH to adhere on an α-Fe2O3 powder, and thereafter reducing the powder or oxidizing the same after the reduction, thereby to obtain a ferromagnetic iron oxide powder in which generation of branched particles is suppressed and which is well adapted for a recording element of a magnetic recorder.
