Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the dialkyl ester of the titled compound useful as a surface treating agent for a woven fabric or paper selectively, by hydrolyzing the reaction product of an alkanol containing a perfluoroalkyl group with a phosphorus oxyhalide and phosphoric acid.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I [Rf is 3W21C perfluoroalkyl group; B is a bifunctional crosslinking group which may link Rf to -(CH2)m-; l is 0 or 1; m is an integer 1W4] is reacted with a phosphorus oxyhalide and phosphoric acid at 80W90°C to give a phosphoryl halide containing a perfluoroalkyl group, which is then hydrolyzed at 70W100°C, preferably 80W90°C, to afford the titled compound of formula II (n is 1W3). According to the method, the dialkyl ester which has good binding properties to a material to be treated is obtained selectively, and the formation of a trialkyl ester is reduced particularly.
