Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a selective gas permeable membrane having mechanical strength as an improved membrane and high permeation coefficient comprising a copolymer obtained by reacting and crosslinking an α,ω-difunctional polymethylsiloxane and a phenolic resin as a main component.
CONSTITUTION: A phenolic resin (e.g.; novolac resin with MW of 10,000) having an aromatic ring in a main chain shown by the formula I is reacted and crosslinked to an α,ω-difunctional polydimethylpolysiloxane [e.g.; α,ω-diaminoethylpolysiloxane (n≈36)] to obtain a copolymer. This copolymer can be easily formed to a thin membrane by casting or other method, for example, a benzene solution of this copolymer is used and a thin membrane with thickness of 1μm or less is easily obtained by a Langmuir method. Moreover, the permeation coefficient of this thin membrane is 1.6×10-8cc(STP)cm/cm2sec.cm2Hg and high perpeating capacity of more than 1/2 of that of a silicone rubber is shown. This selective gas permeable membrane is used in separating a mixed gas of O2 and N2 as well as can be used in separating other mixed gases.
