Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a selective gas permeable membrane material which consists in partially crosslinking a high polymer comprising an olefin-base monomer by using polyorganosiloxane, and which is soluble in organic solvents and is superior in thermal stability, mechanical strength and gas permeability capacity.
CONSTITUTION: A high polymer comprising an olefin-base monomer (e.g. partially saponified polyvinyl acetate) is caused to react and crosslink by using polyorganosiloxane, particularly α,ω-bifunctional polyorganosiloxane, whereby the intended gas permeable membrane material is obtained. This gas permeable membrane material has sufficient mechanical strength, particularly the film strength at the thin film forming, is soluble in solvents, and is therefore easily formable into thin films and follow fibers by a casting or other method. In addition, as to the gas permeability capacity intrinsic to this material, this material exhibits the characteristic of being able to sufficiently maintaining high permeability performance to gases owing to the high permeability performance that polyorganosiloxane possesses intrinsically as well as the effect of the incorporation of macrocyclic structure.
