Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain Shaw mold suprior in disintegration by adding a specific quantity of gypsum according to a kind of refractory material powder to Shaw slurry consisting of ethylsilicate which is a main component, a binder liquid and refractory material powder, etc.
CONSTITUTION: Using ethyl silicate, water and ethyl alcohol as a binder liquid of Shaw slurry, 0.6N hydrochloric acid as pH adjusting agent and ammonium carbonate as a catalyst, they are, for instance, mixed at 80pts, 6pts, 13pts, 1pt and 3pts respectively. Before mixing, a mixture of refractory material powder and gypsum powder is added. Its mixing ratio differs from a kind of refractory material powder, and weight percent of gypsum powder against the total weight of both powder is 10W30 in case of zircon sand, 17W33 in case of aluminum sand, 20W38 in case of carborundum, 23W42 in case of fused silica and 24W42 in case of chamotte. This slurry is poured into a molding flask, and is hardened. Then, Shaw mold is obtained.
