Abstract

PURPOSE: To heighten measurement accuracy and provide firmness against vibration, by emitting ultrasonic waves together with a liquid from an ultrasonic vibrator opposed to the surface of a band plate which moves to a fixed direction.
CONSTITUTION: Water injected through an inlet port 6 gushes out of a nozzle port widely opened at the top of a nozzle 7. The nozzle is opposed to the surface of a steel sheet 1 to be measured. An ultrasonic vibrator 2 is provided in the nozzle 7. Ultrasonic pulses emitted from the ultrasonic vibrator are transmitted through a water column 8 made of the water gushing from the nozzle and are reflected on the surface of the steel sheet 1 so that the ultrasonic pulses are transmitted again through the water column 8 and detected by the vibrator 2.
