EXAMPLE: 3'-Deoxy-4-C-methyl-3"-N-methylkanamycin A expressed by formula II.
USE: An antimicrobial agent having a powerful antimicrobial action even on microorganisms resistant to tobramycin, which is a raw material with low toxicity.
PROCESS: A strain capable of producing gentamicin or its raviant, preferably Micromonospora sp. K-6993 or K-6993-Y-41 (FERM-P No.4304 or 4305), belonging to the genus Micromonospora is incubated in a culture medium containing tobramycin, preferably at 28W32°C under neutral pH conditions for 3W7 days, and the objective compound is separated, purified and taken out.
