Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the picture quality of a detector system by arranging a radiation absorber, which provides variation in incident radiation intensity like gauss distribution over the opening width of a unit radiation detector, in front of the opening part of each of unit radiation detectors arranged on a plane.
CONSTITUTION: On the front face of opening part 2 of a unit radiation detector, radiation absorber 4 is arranged. The thickness of absorber 4 is increased gradually, in accordance with a secondary function, from the center of an axial line penetrating the center of opening part 2 to the outwards. As a result, the opening transfer function of the detector can be made to fall slowly and the opening transfer function like a gauss function can be obtained. This X-ray absorber 4 may be at any place as far as in front of opening part 2 and can also be positioned right before it and at position 4' between subject 5 and X-ray tube focal point 1. This method permits a composite radiation detection system such as a computer tomograph to improve the quality of a picture, depending principally upon its resolution, by narrowing sampling intervals.
