Abstract
PURPOSE:To achieve the simplification of connection work and the reduction of connection loss by aggregating the exposed cores by being removed of clads, thermally fusion-bonding and fixing these, performing end face treatment, butting both end faces, fusion-bonding and fixing these and covering clad on the connected part. CONSTITUTION:The polymer clads 1 of the respective fibers of the polymer clad fibers connecting light guides are removed over the required length and the exposed cores 2 are aggregated. The core aggregate is then thermally melted and temporarily fixed by a suitable heating means, e.g. arc discharge or laser.
