Abstract

PURPOSE:To make mutual axial alignment accuracy higher by forming positioning holes in the predetermined positions on semiconductor substrates and providing an upper substrate which has the holes engaging in these holes with said holes as a reference and commonly covers the top surfaces of fibers. CONSTITUTION:A pair of lower substrates 4, 4' comprising semiconductor crystal of Si or the like are engraved with respectively plural positioning holes 41, 41' and plural systems of optical fiber OF arraying channels 42, 42'. These channels and positioning holes are precisely formed by a photoetching method or the like in such a manner that they assume predetermined relative positions with respect to the other. An upper substrate 7 covering both OF groups commonly is provided on the lower substrates. The under surface of this substrate 7 is engraved with plural OF arraying channels and positioning holes so as to precisely oppose to those of the substrates 4, 4'. Thereby, the errors in working may be decreased considerably and multiple OF may be connected at low losses.
