Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable accurate following-up to large strain, reduce it and transmit the reduced strain to a strain-sensitive section, by appropriately selecting the thickness and material of an insulating board.
CONSTITUTION: A leaf of a resistive metal 12 is bonded on an insulating board 11 which is made of silicone rubber or the like and whose material and thickness are appropriately selected. Strain-sensitive sections 13 are then made by photoetching on the board. After that, the board is cut into several elements. Lead wires 14 are soldered on the elements. A cover 15 made of an insulating material is placed in tight contact with each element, thereby completing a strain gauge element for large strain. The board 11 of the strain gauge is bonded on the measuring surface. The change in the strain of the resistive metal 12, which is deformed depending on the strain of the surface, is picked out in the form of the variation in the resistance. If a material is selected for the board 11 and its thickness is made large, the strain of the measured object is attenuated by about 10% and then transmitted to the strain- sensitive section 13 so that an accurate measured value is provided.
